Meet Our Founder: Kim Kendall
Kim Kendall: Experienced Educator and Practitioner
Kim Kendall brings a wealth of experience to Soma School of Massage. With over twenty years in the massage therapy industry, Kim has dedicated her career to both practicing and teaching the art of healing touch.
Before founding Soma School of Massage, Kim was instrumental in the setup of a local career school in Bountiful, where she gained experience and assisted on many levels of program development, curriculum writing, recruiting, and graduate placement. There, she developed a reputation for her engaging teaching style and ability to break down complex techniques into easily understandable components.
In addition to her teaching experience, Kim has worked extensively as a massage therapist at Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Bountiful, UT. This hands-on experience in a professional setting allows her to bring real-world insights to her students, preparing them for successful careers in massage therapy.
Our Courses
Swedish Massage
Learn the fundamentals of relaxation massage techniques.
This course will provide students with the knowledge, understanding and the development of practical skills and techniques necessary to perform a professional and therapeutic Swedish massage. Focus will be given on students developing proficiency in performing the five basic Swedish massage strokes. This course includes draping techniques, application of body mechanics, proper table height and the importance of body and oral hygiene. Emphasis will be given on maintaining professional and ethical boundaries.

Anatomy, Physiology & Kinesiology (APK I)
50 Total Hours = 20 each x 2.5-hour class twice weekly
1st Quarter Ten Weeks.
This course introduces basic concepts of anatomy and physiology. An introduction to medical terminology with common word parts & definitions will be taught along with the anatomical planes, regions, and cavities of the body. The skeletal and muscular system will primarily be focused on. Attention will be given to bone shapes, tissues and structure. Classification of joints will be taught along with names of synovial joints and joint movement. Muscle types and muscle functions will be studied. Students will learn the main muscles of the body.

20 Total Hours = 10 each x 2-hour class once weekly.
1st Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
This course is an introduction to craniosacral therapy and teaches the definition, principles, history and origination of craniosacral therapy. This course will include a study of the craniosacral system and introduce techniques to release energetic and physical restraints on the body.

20 Total Hours = 10 each x 2-hour class twice weekly
1st Quarter Five Weeks (Hands On)
This course covers eastern philosophies of Yin and Yang and the flow of "Chi" through meridian channels. Students will learn ancient philosophy of Chi and its manifestation as five inter-related aspects of energy known as the five elements: Fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. Students will learn to map and trace each meridian and direction of the energy flow. Focus will be given on acupoints where chi can be affected by various modalities. Students will learn light touch acupressure points to open the flow of chi through the meridian channels to balance, nourish and promote health in the body.

3rd Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
Students will learn to apply neuromuscular therapy to alleviate trigger point discomfort and pain. This course covers the relationship between neuromuscular dysfunction and pain, methods of assessing soft tissues, finding trigger points, and delivering soft tissue manipulative techniques. Students will learn to normalize tissues, reprogram neurological loops, and improve function. This technique is used to address trigger points, circulation issues, nerve compression, postural problems, and repetitive movement injuries.

25 Total Hours = 10 each x 2.5-hour class once weekly
3rd Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
This course teaches the proper safe method & care of hot rocks in a massage. Students will learn how to massage using warm basalt stones. The proper care, cleaning, storage, & heating methods for these stones will be taught. Indications and contraindications, along with the benefits of hot stone therapy will be included. Students will also learn to give the popular Himalayan Salt Stone massage.

1st Quarter TBD Two-day course (Hands On)
This course combines CPR and First Aid training. The Heart Saver CPR AED portion (5 hours) This course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to perform CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency.
The First Aid portion (6 hours) covers first aid and lifesaving skills of cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Basic first aid designed to equip individuals with knowledge and skills necessary to respond to a variety of medical emergencies as needed until professional help arrives.

4th Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
This course teaches the importance of the lymph system and purpose of lymphatic drainage. The method taught in this class MLD (Manual Lymph Drainage) uses light, rhythmical, spiral-like movements to accelerate the movement of lymphatic fluids in the body. Focus will be given on sequence & the direction of lymphatic movement in the body. Students will learn how lymph circulation is vital to life.

20 Total Hours = 10 each x 2-hour class once weekly
3rd Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
This course integrates spa enhancements to the Swedish Massage experience. This course will cover the benefits of aromatherapy, thermotherapy, hydrotherapy (warm and cold applications), Bio freeze treatment, electrical modalities, cold stone treatments, warm towel applications, and foot & hand scrubs.
Reflexology
20 Total Hours = 10 each x 2-hour class once weekly
4th Quarter Ten Weeks (Hands On)
This course teaches the principles, techniques, and practices of reflexology. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there are reflex points on the hands, feet, and ears that correspond to and are connected to the organs in the body. Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet & hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques to reflex areas that correspond to other parts of the body. Reflexology affects the body by facilitating relaxation, balance, and well being. Students will learn the history, theory, and basic techniques of reflexology and gain practical experience through hands-on practice.

4 Total Hours = 2 each x 2-hour class twice per week Q1
1st Quarter Week 6
This course teaches the importance of practicing sanitation, safety practices, & universal precautions. Students will learn the importance of cleanliness of person and surroundings as protection against disease. Focus will be given on practicing the rules of sanitation to safeguard the client's health as well as their own. Students will learn the three forms of pathogenic bacteria and the best prevention against bacteria through strict sanitation procedures. The course covers safety considerations in a massage practice, focusing on four primary areas: facility, equipment, massage practitioner, and client.

15 Total Hours = 10 each x 1.5-hour class once weekly
1st Quarter Ten Weeks
This course focuses on the ethical principles and considerations that guide professional conduct & decision making in massage therapy. Through case studies, discussions and reflective exercises, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of ethical issues specific to the practice of massage therapy and learn how to navigate these challenges with integrity and professionalism.
Business Practices
20 Total Hours = 10 each x 2-hour class once weekly
3rd Quarter Ten Weeks
This course teaches the ideology for building a successful massage practice and the many components that go into maintaining a business. Record keeping, marketing, start up costs, location, permits and licensing, types of insurance and business structure, sole proprietor versus corporation.
