Anatomy Courses
Anatomy I (APK I)
50 Total Hours = 20 each x 2.5-hour class twice weekly
1st Quarter Ten Weeks
This course introduces basic concepts of anatomy and physiology. Students will learn medical terminology, anatomical planes, regions, and cavities of the body. The skeletal and muscular systems are the primary focus.
Anatomy, Physiology & Kinesiology (APK II)
25 Total Hours = 10 each x 2.5-hour class once weekly
2nd Quarter Ten Weeks
This course continues the study of the muscles, and further focuses on muscle insertion & origination points. Palpation skills will be introduced, and students will gain experience by practicing hands-on palpation. Students will also begin to learn to navigate & identify bony landmarks. Principles of biomechanics will be applied to understand human movement and its relationship to anatomy and physiology.
Systems of the Body
25 Total Hours = 10 each x 2.5-hour class once weekly
3rd Quarter Ten Weeks
This course integrates the study of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology to develop a thorough understanding of how the body's systems work together to support function and health. Students will come to understand roles and functions of the nervous system, endocrine system, integumentary system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, sensory system, digestive system, excretory system, and reproductive system. A holistic approach of the interconnectedness of the body will be explored.
Anatomy, Physiology & Kinesiology (APK III)
25 Total Hours = 10 each x 2.5-hour class once weekly
4th Quarter Ten Weeks
This course continues to focus on muscle interaction as related to insertion & origination points. Further study of movement, action, leverage, extensibility, isotonic, isometric, eccentric, and concentric muscle interactions will be focused on. Functions of the fibrous connective tissue, fascia and the three layers of muscle tissue will be studied, along with the three characteristics that enables muscle to produce movement, irritability, contractility, and elasticity.
Pathology I & II
40 Total Hours = 20 each x 2-hour class twice weekly
2nd Quarter Ten Weeks
This course covers the development, terms, conditions, and progression of disease along with the risk factors associated with age, heredity, diet, and lifestyle. Attention will be focused on disease types, such as congenital defects versus pre-existing illnesses and conditions. Massage indications and contraindications will be included and discussed for all diseases covered. Students will learn the different categories of disease along with their effects upon the systems of the body.
